This is a pilot to help us develop our Intro to Riichi curriculum. We ask that participants complete a short questionnaire that will be sent to the email address that was used to register after the lesson to let us know what we can do better!
We are only running two initial sessions of this pilot on Sunday, November 30. Please be sure to select the correct time when you check out! This pilot is fully refundable up to one week before the lesson date (Nov. 23).
Lesson description:
This lesson is for people who already know the basics of playing mahjong and are ready to dive into Japanese-style mahjong, often called Riichi mahjong. If you have taken a Fundamentals lesson with us or already know how to play a different style of mahjong, then you’re ready for this follow-up!
Players should be familiar with the following before starting this lesson:
- basic hand structure: 4 sets of three and a pair
- calls: chi, pon, ron (or equivalent)
This lesson will introduce you to:
- dora
- yaku (valid hands)
- Japanese scoring basics
- and more!
As with our fundamentals course, this won't just be a lecture, we'll take you through real gameplay and discuss actual hands and situations. This lesson is a great bridge from understanding the core mechanics of gameplay to being comfortable sitting down with others to play!
