Sparrow's Nest Open 2026

Join us for Sparrow's Nest Open, a 64-person all-autotable tournament at Sparrow's Nest Studio! This event has been approved as an American Riichi Association (ARA) Regional Qualifier for the NYC area, and will be distributing US qualification points for the 2028 World Riichi Championship in NYC. Rules and Format

• WRC Ruleset
• Modified penalties: Shouhai/Taahai are ruled as dead hands, not chombo. All other penalties as listed through WRC Penalties
• Floating Uma
  • Two players above starting (+15/+5/-5/-15)
  • Three players above starting (+15/+5/0/-20)
  • One player above starting (+20/0/-5/-15)
• Rounds are 60min + 0 (when time is called, players finish their current hand and do not start a new one)
• 10 hanchan scramble with top 8, top 4 cuts for hanchans 7-10
• Top 8 cut and Top 4 cut will both be played as set play. From the top 8 tables, top 2 of each table will be pulled to create final top 4 table. All players are expected to complete all 10 hanchans
  

Other items to note

One ticket per entrant. Ticket purchase will open on 7/6 at 12pm.  Refunds will be processed until two weeks before the associated event date (11/28). After this, players will be able to transfer tickets but will not be refunded. 

One table at the tournament will be streamed on the World Riichi Championship YouTube channel with live commentary provided by our wonderful WRC English broadcast team. Top 4 table will be streamed for final hanchan set (hanchan 9/10). Please alert the admin team if you do not want to be on stream by emailing staff@sparrowsneststudio.com. 

By purchasing a ticket, you are agreeing to the Player Agreement and the Code of Conduct and will be expected to abide by these documents in the event.
